About this venue
Prison Island at Gamecity (physically in Zoetermeer, a short drive from Gouda) is not a classic escape room but an international challenge format: a prison complex with 24 cells, each containing a physical, tactical or logical challenge lasting 2 to 5 minutes. Teams of 2-5 players choose their own route, can retry cells endlessly and compete via live scoreboards in the corridors against other teams — up to 20 teams at once. There is deliberately no story, no actor and nothing scary; it's about variety, competition and moving together. Visitors call it a great concept for large mixed groups, children's parties and corporate outings, though some complain that when fully booked it gets crowded and popular cells develop queues. Puzzle purists looking for depth or narrative are in the wrong place — energetic groups are in the right one.
