Operation Exit

Den Haag โ˜… 8,3 (escapetalk 8.3) 1 room

About this venue

Operation Exit has been running a single room, The Mansion, since October 2015 in a genuinely historic town house on Stationsweg, a minute's walk from Hollands Spoor train station. The story is delightfully gossipy: Baron van Hagesteijn, a world traveler and art collector, allegedly had a secret affair with Russia's last tsarina and received a priceless jewel from her โ€” you break in and hunt for the treasure before the baron returns. Original stained-glass windows, antique furniture and crystal chandeliers do the immersion work; the puzzles are mechanical and woven into the period interior. Reviews have been warm for ten years: 8.3 on escapetalk (86 reviews) and even 9.5 on escaperoomsnederland, with plenty of praise for the enthusiastic host and cryptic hints that are riddles in themselves. Drawbacks: parking is difficult and expensive (take the train, says the venue itself) and there's only one room, so a repeat visit isn't on the cards.
