Escaperoom in Gouda is — despite its name — located in Moordrecht and has been running two rooms since early 2017 with a family-business feel. The flagship is Het Verdwenen Kasteel van Gouda, built around the real castle of Jacoba van Beieren (burned down in 1438 and later demolished): according to legend, a secret tunnel system still runs to the IJssel, and it's up to players to prove in Jacoba's room that those tunnels exist and escape through them. There's also The Fourth Dimension, a science fiction room where you search for a way out of a storm-ravaged earth using the work of a dimension-traveling scientist, plus a VR escape game (La Casa de Papel) as a bonus. Visitors appreciate the welcoming staff, the beautifully woven history of Jacoba and the creative sets with surprises (7.9 average), but the most common criticism is that too many unsolicited hints come via the screen, which dampens the sense of personal achievement.
