About this venue
Breakout Rotterdam sits on the top floor of De Machinist, a distinctive former machinery training building from 1952 west of downtown, with a bar-restaurant below for post-game drinks. You choose from three themes: the classic prison break Alcatraz, the Engine Room of a Russian nuclear submarine — built as a battle room with two identical spaces where you can follow the other team's progress — and the creepy thriller The Caretaker, where you must rescue a missing girl. Visitors especially praise the passionate staff who debrief over a drink after the game, the good hint system, and the thrill of the battle format; on TripAdvisor, players called the battle rooms 'two of the best we've ever played'. Alcatraz feels a bit dated with its minimal, dark design compared to newer rooms, and older rooms don't have much story to speak of.
