Vroeg is first and foremost a farm-bakery and restaurant in Bunnik, which as a group arrangement offers the outdoor activity Escape van Fort Rijnauwen: a puzzle hunt on and around the Fort at Rijnauwen, the largest fort of the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie (built from 1868, once capable of housing 540 soldiers and 105 cannons). After a welcome drink and extensive briefing at the restaurant, you take your team onto the fort grounds to crack riddles, codes and cryptograms; each solved post yields the next clue. To be honest: this is more of a treasure hunt than an escape room — you walk considerable distances, there's no gamemaster in the field and the game is seasonal (roughly mid-April to end of September) and weather-dependent. Reviews are sparse; the most mentioned criticism is precisely that expectation gap ('not a real escape room'). For company outings and family days the format works well: beautiful nature, a unique piece of military history and a long social afternoon with food and drink included.
