About this venue
The Maxx is a large activity center in Veenendaal (go-karts, laser game, glow golf, bowling, restaurant) with eight escape experiences: four classic 60-minute rooms (The Plugger, The Movie Scene, Prison Break, and The Black List), three 15-minute 'Flashcape' micro-rooms, and The Battle, in which two teams in identical rooms compete for 25 minutes. The rooms themselves are first-generation — lots of searching, keys, and padlocks with the occasional gadget — and linearly structured. Visitors come mainly for the complete group outing: friendly staff, food, and free parking are praised. Escape enthusiasts are more critical: escapetalk comes out at a mediocre 5.3, with complaints about worn props, puzzles too easy for experienced players, and flat theming. The Flashcape and Battle formats are more original than what happens in the rooms themselves.
