About this venue
Escaperoom Elixir was in De Wintertuin, a century-old botanical conservatory in the Cantonspark in Baarn — the world's first (and only) escape room in a botanical conservatory, partially restored with crowdfunding where the escape room helped finance the heritage. Main game Elixir (2019, built as two identical rooms for team-vs-team) is set in 1929: a driven botanist brews a life elixir missing just one ingredient, the rare blooming Queen of the Night. Alongside was group game Het Geheim van de Weldoener, woven around August Janssen, the real Amsterdam merchant who had the Wintertuin built in 1915. Visitors praised the beautiful location, the puzzles entirely themed to the setting with remarkably few locks, and the warm welcome; the game ranked in the Dutch top 50. Note: the Wintertuin Experience closed to the public in July 2023, so the escape room is practically no longer bookable.
