Escape Room Bunschoten is at the same physical address as Mama Bazooka (formerly Escape Room Nederland) on Nijverheidsweg in Bunschoten-Spakenburg — the birthplace of the genre in the Benelux, where De Laboratoriumkamer opened in 2013 as the Netherlands' first escape room. The roster includes three rooms: the mad-scientist lab, the dark, fairytale-like Meisjeskamer (18+) and the dystopian The Dome, which TERPECA has named one of the world's best escape rooms multiple times. The rooms rely on hidden electronics, light and sound cues and well-placed scares, and afterwards you get video clips of your own reactions; a game lounge with bar rounds out a complete evening. Visitors are lyrical — 9.8 on TripAdvisor and Facebook, the highest-rated in the province — about the exceptional atmosphere and 'mind-bending' puzzles. The only recurring criticism concerns The Dome's storyline, which sometimes becomes unclear beneath all the spectacle.
