Escaperoom Station Staphorst

About this venue

Escape Room Station Staphorst (2021-2025) was a lovingly themed railway escape room on the Gemeenteweg in Rouveen, built around the opening of the actual station Staphorst in October 1867 and the unsung work of station architect Karel Hendrik van Brederode. The mission was reversed from the classic escape: not to escape, but to activate 'signal red' in time to stop a runaway steam locomotive, while you puzzled your way through the waiting room and service areas of the station. Visitors praised the beautifully finished decors and murals that transported you back a century and a half; criticism came about hints being pushed too quickly and puzzles that felt unoriginal. At the end of July 2025, the room closed its doors for good after four years; the website is now offline and booking is no longer possible.

What visitors say

  • Super creative and beautifully finished decor โ€” you feel 150 years in the past
  • Original objective: not escape but a signal operation as climax
  • Too many and too-quick hints โ€” players felt rushed through
  • Some puzzles felt borrowed and unoriginal
