In the Koornmarktspoort, Kampen's oldest city gate from the fourteenth century, Kamper Events runs an escape room in full nautical décor: you unravel a mutiny aboard one of the Kamper Koggen from the Hanseatic era, with theft of trade goods leading to a larger conspiracy and names of merchants and Hanseatic cities woven into the puzzles. The monument itself is the biggest asset—visitors call the building beautiful, spacious, and impressive, and the host is praised for being sparing with hints and offering a tour of the gate afterwards. Opinions on escapetalk about the puzzle design are mixed to negative: first-generation padlocks and loose notes, little structure or flow in the room, and far too many red herrings, so teams need hints for nearly every puzzle. An outing for those mainly wanting the historical location, less so for puzzle purists; €110 per game with maximum eight players, not accessible for people with mobility issues.
