Escape Tours is not a physical escape room but a self-guided outdoor game on your smartphone: via the Loquiz app you walk with your team through Amsterdam and follow master painter Rembrandt van Rijn on his quest for a secret exit from the city. At each stop you solve a task based on real façades, plaques and monuments, then the next cryptic clue unlocks; anyone who finishes within two hours earns a spot on the Wall of Fame. Players find it a fun, affordable way to see Amsterdam differently — 'you discover places you've never been to before'. There is criticism too: clues can be hard to find on busy streets, and the story is a thin layer over what is essentially a quiz route. The same concept runs in 200+ cities, including Alkmaar and Amersfoort.
