ZWART Breda was a unique 'dine-and-escape-in-the-dark' concept at Breda harbour, with at its core an escape room that played entirely in pitch darkness. In the only room, In The Dark (opened Nov 2017, 60 min, 2-14 players), teams solved the case of escaped burglar 'Mr. Zwart', explicitly not an escape but solving a crime, guided by blind or visually impaired guides who were diegetically your escorts through the darkness. The signature was total sensory reversal: without sight you listen better and collaborate in a completely different way. Press and blog reviews were unanimously enthusiastic about the intensity, the focus and the social value of employing blind staff, often combined with a meal in the dark. The venue has closed (around 2020, the restaurant moved to Van Asch Horeca Beheer): a beautiful concept that worked, but according to the owner was not profitable under the circumstances.
