Escape Island

About this venue

Escape Island is an outdoor escape room on an actual island in recreational lake De Warande in Oosterhout (run by GibbonSport, open since 2020). You're ferried to the island, solve puzzles in nature for 60 minutes and escape — the whole point — by actually paddling away on a real raft (swimming diploma required). There are two themes on the same island: 'Cast Away', where you're a survivor of a crashed cargo plane who must survive and build a raft, and 'Lifeguard's Locker', about an old lifeguard and missing valuables still supposedly on the island. With an escapetalk score of 9.0 (41 reviews), this is the highest-rated location in this batch: visitors praise the original concept, clever use of the environment and the raft finale ('just like Expedition Robinson!'). Criticism mainly concerns lack of story, many padlocks, an overly long briefing that gives away surprises, and weather/mud.
