Room Escape Heerlen

Heerlen 2 rooms

About this venue

Room Escape Heerlen is a small, independent venue (now relocated to Wilhelminaplein 25, near the station) that revolves entirely around one idea: the Koempel Room, named after the Limburgian coal miner. The room is built twice โ€” The Red Mine and The Blue Mine โ€” so two teams compete head-to-head in identical rooms for the title of 'ultimate escapist'. You descend 400 metres into a Limburgian coal mine, crawl through shafts, and haul heavy equipment; the rooms are built with real materials and help from the Dutch Mining Museum, providing authentic atmosphere. Players praise the loyalty to the theme and the original battle concept, but the puzzles are low-tech (mostly key and combination locks) and there are complaints about price, maintenance, and one game master managing two rooms simultaneously. Too few reviews for a firm score.

What visitors say

  • Stays true to the theme โ€” you genuinely believe you're underground
  • Original battle concept: two teams against each other in identical rooms
  • Authentic miner materials thanks to collaboration with the Dutch Mining Museum; warm welcome and clear briefing
  • Pricey for a game of less than an hour; low-tech puzzles (mostly locks)
  • One game master for two rooms doesn't always maintain overview, so hints sometimes come too late

Super tof om te doen. Wel aan de prijs voor minder dan een uurtje vermaak.โ€” escaperoomsnederland
