Disaster Escape in Meerssen was one of Limburg's best-rated escape rooms, with just one room: Nuclear Power Plant. Owner Eric Muijtjens built it as a self-imposed design challenge โ a room with zero keys and zero combination locks. Premise: you and your colleagues, top nuclear scientists, are sent to one of Europe's most modern nuclear power plants where strange things are happening and a meltdown threatens; restore the system within 60 minutes before radiation becomes critical. Everything ran on sensors and electronics, with a sleek control room aesthetic and a hint system that remained fully in-character (plant communication). Reviewers praised the original, surprising puzzles, the immersion and the exceptionally warm owners โ escapetalk gave 9.3/10 over 184 reviews (atmosphere 9.1, gameplay 9.2, service 9.5), with virtually no complaints except the somewhat remote location. The room is now permanently closed (around 2023-2024, reason unknown) โ one room meant one revenue stream and no repeat visits.
