About this venue

The Bar (Barescape) was the most distinctive escape concept in Limburg: a 1920s speakeasy hidden somewhere in downtown Maastricht, opened in 2018. The experience lasted around 150 minutes: first you received instructions from 'a random passerby' at the Vrijthof and solved a geocaching tour through the city using a compass and clues to find the secret bar's coordinates; then you had to enter with a password at the door, got a drink, and played the classic 60-minute escape in the working bar, with the bartender as live game master. Visitors especially praised the concept, the host, and the hint ritual (the bartender stays silent until you make a 'confession', which takes 10 minutes) — it scored 9.1-9.2 on escapetalk (atmosphere 9.3, service 9.4) over 127 reviews. Criticism: the linear setup, the long outdoor tour as the biggest downside, and conventional final puzzles. The own website barescape.nl is now offline (DNS no longer exists in 2026), so the status is unclear and the venue appears closed.
