Escaperoom voor de Vrijheid is part of the National Underground Museum at Markt in Aalten and sits in an authentic building where people actually hid from the Nazis during World War II β while the German Ortskommandant had his office in the front room of the same house. You play as people in hiding who must reach freedom within an hour, where moral dilemmas matter as much as puzzles and secret codes; devised by theatre makers Theo SoontiΓ«ns and Caro Wicher, museum visit included after the experience. Visitors are impressed by the gripping, authentic atmosphere and the committed volunteers who carry the story with an extensive briefing and debrief (8.5 on escaperoomsnederland, around 8.9 on escapetalk). One critic felt the execution didn't fully do justice to the strong concept, and the space is not wheelchair accessible.
