Escape Vrijland Arnhem took place in a genuine old building on Landgoed Vrijland in Schaarsbergen, a 19th-century estate with a past as a residence, convent, and war location. In Krakers van Vrijland you were the squat group yourselves: the municipality had announced the eviction and you had one hour to leave before the riot police moved in—complete with helicopter and breach sounds as time ran out. Visitors especially praised how perfectly the shabby building suited the theme and the friendly owner; criticism centered on the many (about eighteen) locks, the deliberate misinformation, and the lots of searching, making you heavily dependent on the game master's hints. The room closed in March 2020 after around 11,000 visitors, as the owner moved on to other projects.
