Escape Room XL in Zoelen billed itself as the largest escape room in the Netherlands: not a classic room but an XL event of up to four hours, with thirteen excavations, tasks and secret spaces across a site that culminated in an underground tunnel system, The Maze — complete with live actors and a horror-tinged story about bizarre disappearances. It aimed at corporate outings and stag nights with groups of up to around 300 people at a time. Experiences varied widely: some groups found it 'VERY exciting', but TripAdvisor reviews complain about poor guidance, incorrect signposting, an inaudible briefing and hints that were automatically given away. Around 2021 the location quietly disappeared and continued as event venue De Kaap. The appeal lay in scale and actors, not puzzle design.
