Escape Room Appeltern is part of recreation and hospitality business Moeke Mooren, directly on the Maas, and leans heavily on local history: in Moeke's Kamer you unravel the secret of early twentieth-century ferryman Moeke Mooren herself, and Cold Case de Blauwe Sluis is based on a true murder from 1900 at this exact location. There are also the family room Pompen of Verzuipen (keep the dikes dry) and Kamer 13 about archaeologist Josep Moreno; the Cold Case exists in duplicate so teams can play against each other. Visitors praise the true story, the decor and friendly welcome—nice for beginners and families—but experienced players find the rooms fairly easy, and there are complaints about an absent operator, malfunctioning walkie-talkies and cumbersome booking on request.
