Escape Loevestein was an escape experience in the genuine Slot Loevestein, with two games: the escape room De Groote Ontsnapping centered on the famous book chest escape of Hugo de Groot in 1621, and the large team game Loevestein Bezet! about the night in 1570 when Herman de Ruyter seized the castle โ complete with costumed guides and four historical factions. Visitors were unanimously lyrical about the once-in-a-lifetime venue, the intro, and the hint guidance, but felt that the execution fell short of the location: modern technology clashed with the medieval castle, puzzles malfunctioned, and the story fell flat. On 22 March 2020 the escape room permanently closed; the museum wanted the space back for new castle programming.
