Silent Town in Burgum is with The Asylum one of the very best horror escape rooms in the Netherlands: TERPECA Top Room 2024, 4.5/5 at Escape the Review ('currently the scariest room in the Netherlands') and approximately the 13th best room in the country. In this 90-minute immersive thriller you enter the abandoned psychiatric hospital of a village shrouded in supernatural mist since 17 October 1974 — and discover that not all patients have left. A prowling live actor, cinematic mist, light and sound effects and surprisingly serious puzzle density make it feel like you're inside a horror film, according to visitors; afterwards you watch the highlights on a big screen with a drink. Enthusiasts travel from all over Europe for it ('2.5 hours drive, but it was completely worth it'). Note: the owners are stopping — 29 November 2026 is the last play date, as they will be building new experiences in Emmeloord.
