Escapeloop.nl from Koudum is not a classical escape room but an outdoor concept: an escape room crossed with a city walk, played with a backpack full of physical props and your own smartphone. The company, started during the first lockdown in 2020 by Robbert Zonderland and Janien van der Meulen, has five loops in Southwest Friesland (Balk, Hindeloopen, Sloten, Stavoren and Workum), each with a genuine local story — from the stolen frozen toe of Eleven Cities Skate racer Tinus Udding to the Woman of Stavoren. A personal online assistant provides hints, so teams can adjust the difficulty themselves; pausing for a drink on a terrace is perfectly fine. There have been over 850 groups and 84% solve the mystery; traditional review scores are missing, but tourist portals especially praise the local authenticity and flexibility.
