De Ducdalf is a café-restaurant along with bowling and activity centre in Espel and in 2017 was the first business in the Noordoostpolder to have an escape room. In Don Quichot you must repair a broken polder mill within an hour to prevent flooding; the room is deliberately period-authentic with only 17th-century mechanisms — no key or digit locks. Additionally there is 2 on the Richter Scale, a competitive group room about Groningen gas extraction earthquakes, plus two escape boxes (De Watergeus and Duurzaam) for extra parallel capacity. Visitors praise the beautiful finishing, the sound design and friendly service (escapetalk: 7.3 for Don Quichot, service subscore 8.3), though puzzle logic is variable: some puzzles can be solved in unintended ways or are too vague, so the gamemaster sometimes has to assist. The whole thing is mainly sold as part of an afternoon or evening arrangement with buffet or gourmet dining.
