Kings & Queens at Nieuwe Huizen in Assen is an entertainment centre with a sports bar, City Quest and more, where the escape offering nowadays revolves around Prison Island: a cell complex with 22 cells full of short physical and mental challenges, where teams of 3–5 players roam freely and score points for the high-score list. The classic escape room Escape from Pirates Bay — still the very first escape room in Assen in September 2016, with a VOC/pirate theme — is now permanently closed. Pirates Bay scored 7.6 on escapetalk with praise for original puzzles, the surprising ending and especially service (8.8), though players found the room nearly impossible without hints. Prison Island in turn is praised as a group outing where 'an hour and a half flies by', though some cells are poorly explained and cannot be done with just two people. If you're looking for a story-driven escape room, this is no longer the place; if you want competitive fun with a large group, it definitely is.
