Kings & Queens Assen (Prison Island + Escape from Pirates Bay)

Assen ★ 7,6 (escapetalk 7.6 (Pirates Bay, 5 reviews)) 2 rooms

About this venue

Kings & Queens at Nieuwe Huizen in Assen is an entertainment center with sports bar, City Quest and more, where the escape offer now runs on Prison Island: a cell complex with 22 cells full of short physical and mental challenges, where teams of 3-5 players roam freely and score points for the high-score list. The classic escape room Escape from Pirates Bay — still Assen's very first escape room in September 2016, with a VOC/pirate theme — is now permanently closed. Pirates Bay scored 7.6 on escapetalk with praise for original puzzles, surprising ending and especially service (8.8), though players found the room nearly impossible without hints. Prison Island is in turn praised as a group outing where 'an hour and a half flies by', though some cells are poorly explained and impossible with two people. For a story-driven escape room you're no longer looking in the right place here; for competitive entertainment with a large group, you are.
