Escaperoom The Basement

Hoogeveen β˜… 8,4 (escaperoomsnederland 8.4) Closed 3 rooms

About this venue

Escaperoom The Basement in Hoogeveen was an atmospheric three-room complex with its own bar and group packages, but closed permanently on 1 July 2025; the website is still online for redeeming gift vouchers. Flagship was 'Project Blue 26A8', where an archaeologist after a dig near Hoogeveen ends up with an infectious disease in a secret quarantine basement of the municipality β€” local history cleverly woven into the literal basement of the building. 'Grill with a Thrill' set up a cheerful 1950s diner where guests come in upbeat but leave somber and emotionless, and 'REDemption' was the third, less documented room. Reviews (8.4 on escaperoomsnederland.nl) especially praised the dΓ©cor ('rarely seen so beautifully decorated'), warm guidance and how well story and puzzles intertwined; criticism concerned the weaker room, linear progression and an unclear final beat. That even this beloved venue closed says something about the market in a small region.

What visitors say

  • Beautifully decorated rooms β€” 'rarely seen so beautifully styled'
  • Warm guidance and hospitality around it (drinks, buffet) made for an evening out
  • In Project Blue, story and puzzles fit seamlessly together
  • Linear progression and in the weaker room puzzles that didn't fit the theme
  • Unclear ending: one group wasn't sure if they'd won
