Escaperoom The Basement in Hoogeveen was an atmospheric three-room complex with its own bar and group packages, but closed permanently on 1 July 2025; the website is still online for redeeming gift vouchers. Flagship was 'Project Blue 26A8', where an archaeologist after a dig near Hoogeveen ends up with an infectious disease in a secret quarantine basement of the municipality β local history cleverly woven into the literal basement of the building. 'Grill with a Thrill' set up a cheerful 1950s diner where guests come in upbeat but leave somber and emotionless, and 'REDemption' was the third, less documented room. Reviews (8.4 on escaperoomsnederland.nl) especially praised the dΓ©cor ('rarely seen so beautifully decorated'), warm guidance and how well story and puzzles intertwined; criticism concerned the weaker room, linear progression and an unclear final beat. That even this beloved venue closed says something about the market in a small region.
